Bellefontaine’s police department has entered a season of personnel retirements that could last several years, Chief Brandon Standley told members of the City Council’s Finance Committee on Tuesday.

“The cycle has begun. We’re looking at three or four retirements in the next couple of years,” he said, which will set off a series of promotions.

Those promotions will open new patrol positions and that concerns the chief most.

He believes the city should hire a new patrol officer as soon as possible so they can receive adequate training.
