Police officer of the year named

Bellefontaine resident Nicholas Burtchin was named the 2012 West Liberty Police Department Officer of the Year last week during a Christmas party for the department at the Liberty Gathering Place.

Chief Shane Oelker presented him with an engraved clock as a reward for his service.

A 2008 Bellefontaine High School graduate, Mr. Burtchin began working with the department in September 2011. He also holds a law enforcement degree from Rhodes State College.

He has enlisted in the U.S. Army, and will leave in January for boot camp at Ft. Benning, Ga.
