Syrup canister find stirs memories of canning factory

A random find by two lumberyard employees stirred the memories of a longtime businessman whose roots run deep in Logan County.
Last week while dismantling a turn-of-the-century self-feeding saw at the Hess Lumber Co., employees Jason Meyers and Matt Skidmore came upon a gold tin can with a near mint condition label advertising Ohio Chief pure maple syrup made by the J.M. Abraham Co. of Bellefontaine.
Curious about the history of the canister, Hess Lumber owner Dan Hess began asking around about the piece.
