Ridgemont Local School District officials reported at Thursday’s board of education meeting about the district’s approaching eighth annual Christmas luncheon for senior citizens, slated for noon Dec. 6.
The receipt of a $500 grant from the Kenton Wal-Mart will assist the school with providing hot meals to more than 100 guests. Student talent also will be showcased during the luncheon.
Relating to the Ohio School Facilities Commission building project, the district has scheduled a community update meeting for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the high school library, where plans will be shared regarding building design and timelines.
In addition, pupils created a newsletter containing other building project information that was recently sent to area residents.
Members also approved student Bailey Wagner to attend the State Farm Regional Training Program for the “Youth in the Driver Seat” grant in Atlanta from Dec. 9-10. Adviser Stephanie Jolliff will accompany her.
In personnel matters, vacation days were restored to classified employees on 260-day contracts following the dissolution of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees.
In other action, the board:
• extended probationary contracts to Jerry Salyer, high school custodian, and Leanne Larson, elementary custodian;
• approved the internal transfer of Patty Hale to elementary special education and library aide, and to add high school library duties to the position of Angela Davis, educational aide/study hall monitor; and
• transferred Tim Weyant, junior varsity girls basketball, to a position as assistant varsity girls basketball coach.
Members have rescheduled their Dec. 20 meeting to 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at the high school library.
