William England, 27, of 117 W. Brown Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and driving an unsafe vehicle about 1:24 p.m. Saturday after a rear-end collision in the 100 block of north Main Street, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
Beverly Wolf of West Mansfield was southbound on Main Street when her vehicle was rear-ended. She told police that immediately upon making contact with Mr. England, she detected an odor of alcohol and suspected he was drunk.
In a statement, she told police the suspect’s car key was in his right hand as the two shook hands and she took his car key from him and went inside 600 Downtown, 108 S. Main St., to call police.
The suspect told police his brakes were faulty in his vehicle. A breath test conducted at the police station registered Mr. England’s blood-alcohol content at .210.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
