An alert citizen on Wilgus Drive spotted the girl from across the harbor in a tree line behind Taco Bell, 137 E. Main St., and contacted authorities around 8:35 a.m. Sunday.
Police patrolling the area were on the scene within a couple minutes and transported the girl in good condition to the village police department, where she described hiding in the cold and eventually setting up camp where she was found.
Before being found, Skylar reportedly was last seen about 5 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of west Main Street in the village.
Police Chief Joe Freyhof said he was overwhelmed with the number of volunteers who came out to help find the child. The department also was assisted by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Township Police, Indian Joint Fire District, members of the Ohio Child Abduction/Missing Response Team, representatives from the FBI and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and helicopter air support.
Details will be forthcoming as they become available.
Correction: Skylar's first name was spelled incorrectly in an earlier version of this story.
