UNIOPOLIS — Provisional ballots have been counted, but the outcome remains the same in Uniopolis.
Residents decided by a slim margin to remain incorporated. Unofficial results from election day show voters defeating a resolution to surrender the village by one vote.
The outcome remains the same even with six provisional ballots added to the count. For now, village operations will remain the same.
However, township trustees remain concerned. Uniopolis is dealing with declining revenues and less funding from the state.
Trustees believe that even with the outcome of this vote, the village could eventually be forced to dissolve because of financial problems. Residents may see the issue on the ballot again.
Paperwork would need to be filed by February for the initiative to appear on the May primary ballot. That possibility will be discussed at the village's next council meeting Dec. 3.
