Man pleads guilty to smuggling heroin into jail

A defendant charged with trying to sneak heroin into the jail pleaded guilty this week in Logan County Common Pleas Court.



Patrick Biddle, 31, of Zanesfield, pleaded guilty to illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility, a third-degree felony.

Jail informants alerted Logan County Jail personnel to the defendant, who was conspiring with his wife to smuggle two units of heroin into the jail.

Also pleading guilty:

• Stephen Fields, 28, of West Liberty: contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and Vance Brown Jr., 34, of Bellefontaine: trafficking in drugs. They will be sentenced Dec. 17.

• John Prather, 51, of Bellefontaine: aggravated menacing. He was sentenced to six months in local jail;

• Alan McDaniel, 22, of Lakeview: breaking and entering. He was placed on drug intervention under supervision for three years;

• Heather Martindale, 29, of Bellefontaine: trafficking in drugs; and Matthew Davis, 36, of Lakeview: burglary. They will be sentenced Dec. 31.

A jury spent five hours deliberating Friday before convicting Tyrell Artis, 20, of Bellefontaine, of burglary. He was found not guilty on a charge of aggravated burglary. He will be sentenced Dec. 17.
