A member of the Indian Lake High School Class of 1964, Mr. Ferguson, who was described as mild mannered, was killed in Vietnam action in 1967.
“As we dedicate these chimes remembering and honoring his sacrifice, may the sounds that we hear ever remind us of the sacrifice of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ,” Pastor Jim Ellington said.
“For the purpose of calling all to the spirit of worship, for beauty in the wedding service, for comfort in funerals, for thanksgiving on festive occasions, we dedicate these chimes,” he continued.
Ringing of the chimes and an anthem by the bell choir concluded the service.
Mr. Ferguson was one of scores of fallen veterans honored among more than 100 veterans in attendance Sunday.
