A recovering teenage drug addict will be screened for in-patient treatment and soon could be released from prison and admitted into the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility.
Judge Mark S. O’Connor ruled during a Wednesday hearing in Logan County Common Pleas Court that Hayden Hensel, 19, could begin the interview and intake process for a stay at West Central.
Should the CBCF determine the defendant is agreeable to treatment, the judge will grant his release from prison.
Arguing for judicial release, defense counsel Thomas Seeley said he observed “genuine remorse” and a desire to beat his drug addiction during a Sept. 13 visit with Mr. Hensel at the North Central Correctional Institution.
Mr. Seeley said his client worked in the prison library during his seven months of incarceration adding it was, “work he enjoyed quite a bit.
“Mr. Hensel really had his eyes opened in prison,” Mr. Seeley went on, “this was his first time in prison and it was a real wake-up call.”
