Logan County Agricultural Society Managing Secretary Bev Cotterman intends to resign effective Dec. 31, fair board president Skip Jackson revealed Wednesday.
The regularly scheduled fair board meeting is postponed until 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 because of a lack of quorum. At least 16 members have to be present to have a meeting. About a dozen were on hand Wednesday, in the middle of harvesting time.
Mr. Jackson announced to those in attendance word of Mrs. Cotterman’s resignation, which he said leaves the fair board with big shoes to fill.
“Secretary is a big job, and treasurer is a big job,” Mr. Jackson said. “Together, they’re an enormous job.”
Because there was no formal meeting Wednesday, Mr. Jackson said the board won’t act on the letter of resignation until next week.
He said the process of selecting a new secretary and/or treasurer will begin in the coming weeks. He indicated to board members he would rather find an independent secretary and treasurer, but wouldn’t rule out the possibility of continuing to combine the position.
The board president also assured members the resignation was for personal reasons and was unrelated to the operations of the fair. She has worked as the fair board’s treasurer/secretary for at least the last seven years, Mr. Jackson said.
“(The resignation) is not fair related,” Mr. Jackson said. “Bev has written a few things down that she is willing to help out with during this transition.
“I think she wants to spend more time with family, with her husband.”
