Alcohol-related crash ends in wooded area

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed in a wooded area in the 5100 block of U.S. Route 68 about 1:54 a.m. Sunday.

Gary W. Clifton, 49, of 234 E. Harrison Ave., Lakeview, reportedly was operating a southbound pickup that drove off the west side of the road and struck a concrete culvert and then rode along the side of a steep ravine and came to rest in a deep thicket.

Mr. Clifton was found sleeping inside the vehicle. When deputies spoke with Mr. Clifton, they noted that he was slurring his speech and that he smelled of alcohol. He said he was not injured.

A passenger, Christina Dolan, 35, of Bellefontaine, also was asleep in the vehicle. She was transported by Huntsville squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Also located at the crash scene were two baggies of suspected marijuana, which Mr. Clifton said belonged to him.

Deputies administered field sobriety tests to Mr. Clifton and he was then transported to the Logan County Jail, where he tested a .169 blood alcohol content level.

He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, possession of marijuana and failure to control.
