CHAGRIN FALLS (AP) — The Ohio woman who became the youngest person to row across the Atlantic alone says oars used in her feat have been lost in a car theft.

Katie Spotz of suburban Cleveland says the gear was in her 2000 Dodge Caravan when it was stolen from outside a home on Monday.

The minivan also held other belongings, including a bicycle she used on a 3,300-mile ride across America in memory of her grandmother.

Spotz was 22 in March when she completed her solo row from Senegal in Africa to Guyana in South America. The trip took more than two months.

She tells WJW-TV that after she discovered the van was gone she called some friends to see if they were pulling a prank on her.

CIRCLEVILLE  (AP) — A truck driver who authorities said dumped a Tennessee woman's body at a closed Ohio rest stop has pleaded guilty to abusing a corpse.

Thirty-three-year-old Trenton Derenberger of Bucyrus (byoo-SY'-ruhs) in north-central Ohio could receive up to a year in prison on the plea entered Wednesday in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court. A sentencing date has not been set.

The partially clothed body of 36-year-old Kim Vaughn of Memphis was found July 9 at an abandoned rest area along U.S. route 23 south of Columbus. Police said Derenberger told them she died while he was giving her a ride in Knoxville, Tenn., and that he drove the body to Ohio.
