Warren William “Bill” Lenhart, 78, of Lewistown, passed away of natural causes at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Jackson Township, Shelby County, on April 28, 1932, a son of the late Lauren and Avanelle Ambos Lenhart. He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Derek Brideweser.
On Feb. 14, 1952, he married the former Shirley Rae Elliott in Blackford County, Ind., and she survives, along with a son, Steven (Iva) Lenhart of Sidney; a daughter, Diane (Ronald) Frank of Jackson Center; six grandchildren, Aaron (Holly) Lenhart, Heather (Jamie) Fausnaugh, Adam (Angela) Lenhart, Haley Lenhart, Megan Brideweser and Daniel Frank; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Lenhart, Bailey Fausnaugh, Hunter Lenhart and Adalyn Lenhart; two sisters, Doris Ann (Emory) Byrd and Janet Lee Schnell, and a brother, John R. (Sharon) Lenhart, all of Jackson Center; and several nieces and nephews.
A lifelong farmer, Bill enjoyed spending the past 28 winters in Okeechobee, Fla.
He was a 1950 graduate of Jackson Center High School and a U.S. Army Veteran, where he was a corporal and served in Bordeux, France. He also was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, Indian Lake Moose Lodge, Jackson Center American Legion, and the VFW of Jackson Center.
He was a member of the morning coffee shop groups in both Jackson Center and in Florida, and was an avid television sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed playing cards and bingo while in Florida.
He was a former dart ball player with the Jackson North Team, and also was a former member of numerous bowling leagues in both Wapakoneta and Sidney.
The Rev. Michael Althauser officiates a funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sanford Funeral Home, Jackson Center, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Internment is in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson Center American Legion and the donor’s choice.
