Junior Erica Snapp turned in a stellar effort Monday night to help her Riverside’s girls basketball team drop visiting Botkins for a 49-43 non-league win.
Snapp scored a career-high 21 points and made some crucial free throws in the closing minute of the game to help seal the victory for the Pirates. Riverside built a comfortable 38-29 lead after three quarters of play, but had to fight off a late scare by Botkins down the stretch to get the win. “Erica carried us tonight,” said Riverside head coach Dean Sanford. “She got hot with the basketball and played great. We rode her throughout the game. She really stepped up for us. “You have to give Botkins credit, though. They came here and fought for four quarters like we expected. We walked out with a ‘W’ even it wasn’t a pretty ‘W’.” Snapp fueled the Pirates’ offense in the first half with 13 points. Botkins led 12-8 after the opening quarter, but Snapp hit two crucial three-point baskets in the second quarter to help lift the hosts to a 25-22 halftime lead.
