Brooklynn Purtee buried two free throws with 1.3 seconds remaining in the game to give Riverside a 56-54 win over host Parkway on Tuesday in the opening round of the Chatt Insurance Holiday Tournament.

The Pirates (4-3) advance to tonight’s championship game against Hamilton Ross, which defeated Lincolnview 59-36 in its first-round game Tuesday.

With the score tied at 54-54, Purtee was fouled while taking a shot. She converted both free-throw attempts to lift the Pirates to the thrilling victory.

Amelia Carter also had a big night for Riverside. The senior post player scored 21 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. She made all eight of her free-throw attempts on the night.

The game was a tight battle throughout. Parkway led 13-12 after one quarter and 27-26 at halftime.

Riverside led 39-33 at one point during the third quarter, but the Panthers came back to take a 42-41 lead by the end of the stanza.
