Taking over after a successful run by Rod Yoder, new Riverside head softball coach Andy Phelps does not see the need for any major changes in the Pirates’ program. “My goals are to continue to build on a winning program,” said Phelps. “Coach Yoder has done an excellent job of building the program to where it is today and I want to continue that success.” Phelps was recently tabbed by the Riverside school board to replace Yoder, who stepped down at the end of last season to spend more time with his family. Yoder spent two separate stints as head coach at Riverside, compiling a record of 259-142 over 18 seasons. The Pirates are coming off a 2009 season in which they won the outright Northwest Central Conference title. For the complete story, pickup a copy of Saturday’s Examiner.
