Riverside started Friday’s game against visiting St. Wendelin with a bang, and the end result was a 48-0 win in Northwest Central Conference action.
The Pirates improve to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the NWCC, while the Mohawks fall to 0-9, 0-6. Riverside took command early and led 41-0 after the first quarter. Pirates’ head coach T.R. Doty felt his team was firing on all cylinders from the start of the game. “It seemed like every play the holes really opened up for us,” said Doty. “The defense came out and got the ball back for us and gave us good field position. Everything was just clicking for us tonight.” The Pirates racked up 270 yards of offense, which included 231 yards rushing. Gunner Whitaker led the attack with three touchdowns and 127 yards on just five carries. The win also marked the fourth consecutive victory for RHS and that had Doty feeling good about his team’s direction. For the complete story, pickup a copy of Saturday's Examiner.
