Riverside’s Brandon Whitehead earned a district berth to provide a local highlight in the Division III boys golf sectional Monday at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not on a qualifying team earned a spot in next week’s district tournament.

Lehman Catholic won the tourney in a tiebreaker over Russia. Both teams shot a 354. Ft. Loramie took third with a 363 and Jackson Center finished fourth with a 367.

Riverside placed seventh with a 385, while Triad was 10th with a 394.

Whitehead posted an 89 to grab one of the individual district tournament berths.

“It was a very windy day and the boys played very well for the weather conditions,” said Riverside head coach Andy Phelps. “This has been Brandon’s goal all year to make it out of districts. I am very proud of the way they all played.”

Grant Miller contributed a 94 and Kyle Hurley was close behind with a 96 for the Pirates. Kyle Millice added a 106 and Nathan Guthrie shot 111.

Quinton Yocom had the low round for Triad with a 91. He was followed by Nathan Ormeroid (97), Mikey Helterbran (99), Josh Welty (107) and Drue LeMaster (120).

Brandon Rehmert of Mississinawa Valley was medalist with an 83.

Whitehead will compete in the Division III district tournament Oct. 8 at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown.
