Riverside’s volleyball team dominated visiting Ridgemont for a 25-12, 25-9, 25-9 win Thursday in Northwest Central Conference action. The Pirates stay unbeaten in NWCC play at 3-0 and move to 6-3 overall. The Gophers fall to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the NWCC.
Erica Snapp led Riverside with nine kills, while Amelia Carter added eight kills. Also for the Pirates, Brooklyn Purtee had five aces and six digs, Tory Thompson had seven blocks and 10 assists, Sarah Schindewolf had four digs and two kills and Abby Heaberlin and Chelsea Hickey each had four digs. For Ridgemont, Paige Guenther had 11 digs, two blocks and was 14-16 serves received, Malana Ledley had seven digs and was 9-13 serves received, Courtney Cobb had four digs and was 12-12 serves received, Grace Poeppelman had four digs, Morgan Mercer had one assist and two digs, Cierra James had one ace and two digs and Haley Miller had four digs and was 10-11 serves received. “We knew we were up against a strong Riverside team, but the girls still came out with a positive attitude,” said Gopher girls head coach Brandy Hale. “I think they started losing their confidence once a few plays didn’t go our way.” The Gophers won the junior varsity match 19-25, 25-17, 25-23. Leading Ridgemont was Whitney Arseneau with seven aces, one assist, nine digs and 5-7 serves received. For the Pirates, Ericka Jones had nine digs, Hillary Jackson had seven digs and Bethany Newland had three aces and five kills.
