The Tigers won with a 312 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Waynesfield-Goshen was second with a 324 and New Knoxville finished with a 360.

According to WL-Salem boys head coach Darrin Leichty, the Tigers mark of 312 is a new school record, eclipsing the previous mark of 313 set by the 1987 state qualifying team of Jeff Stillings, Kent Moroe, Travis Thomas and Scott Zerkle.

Ben Rutan led WL-Salem as match medalist with a low score of 73. Ryan Meister shot a 75, Derrick Overholt carded an 81 and T.R. Nisonger had an 83.

Also competing for WL-Salem were Ryan Ropp with an 83 and Chris White with an 84.

The top four scores make up the school record with Nisonger’s 83 counting toward the school record because he was the higher seeded golfer for WL-Salem.

“Today the guys showed what they are capable of doing,” said Leichty. “We did a good job of handling adversity during the round.”

In junior varsity action, W-Goshen won with a 369, WL-Salem recorded a 387 and New Knoxville was third with a 444.

For the Tigers, Greg White shot an 85, Landon Hormann had a 90, Zach Taylor carded a 101 and Jacob Shoemaker posted a 111.

WL-Salem competes Monday in the Marysville Invitational.

Lehman Catholic drops Ben Logan

Lehman Catholic defeated visiting Benjamin Logan’s boys golf team 153-166 in a match Friday evening.

The Raiders fall to 1-3 on the season.

The duo of Blaine Ricketts and Mitchell Kenoyer led Ben Logan with 41s, while Artie Zell and Dylan McGarry both had 42s.

“I am excited to watch the kids shoot low 40s and be upset this year,” said Raider head coach Tim Smith. “We are trying to make the leap into the next level of play and there will be some growing pains along the way.

“Last year we were an average team that had a couple of good days. This year we expect to be a very good team by building a consistent game to play every day.”

Lehman Catholic’s Will Fridley was match medalist with a 34.

Ben Logan hosts the Raider Invitational at Tree Links Golf Course on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Match medalist went to USV’s Bradley Pickford who fired a 37.

Ridgemont is back in action Monday when it hosts USV.
