The Pirates improve to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the NWCC.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning before the Pirates scored four in the second for a 5-1 lead. The Pirates tacked on another run in the third and four more in the fifth.

“It is always important, especially in a league game, to jump on your opponent early,” said Riverside head coach Rob Kilgore. “It was big for us to get off to that good start.”

Kyle Ehresmann threw a complete-game two-hitter to get the win for the Pirates. He struck out 12 and walked one.

“That was a great outing for Kyle,” said Kilgore. “Our pitchers have struggled with walks at times this year, but Kyle did a good job of pounding the strike zone.”

Riverside’s offense generated 11 hits. Garrett Fairchild was 2-3 with a double and five RBI to power the attack. Blaine Dixon was 3-3 with a double and Ehresmann added two RBI to aid the win.

The Pirates are back in action today at home against Botkins.
