Riverside grabbed a 7-0 lead after two innings and went on to record a 10-1 victory over visiting Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday in a Northwest Central Conference softball game.

The Pirates then blew the game open with a six-run second inning. They added two more runs in the fourth and another in the sixth. The Tigers scored their lone run in the sixth. After committing nine errors in a doubleheader against West Liberty-Salem last Saturday, Riverside’s defense bounced back with a mistake-free effort Wednesday. “I was happy we were able to return to the defensive form we are used to playing,” said Riverside head coach Rod Yoder. “Sara (Emerich) pitched another good game with 10 strikeouts.” Emerich finished with a three-hitter to get the win. Offensively, the Pirates had 11 hits. Abby Heaberlin led the way with three hits and two RBI. Sarah Schindewolf had two hits and two RBI, Ashley Jones recorded a double, single and two RBI and Taylor Covault added a double for the Pirates. Schneider, Goodrich lead Raiders past Arrows Denay Schneider belted a grand slam home run and Hayley Goodrich turned in another high quality pitching outing to lead visiting Benjamin Logan to a 7-3 win over Tecumseh on Thursday in a Central Buckeye Conference softball game. The Raiders improve to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the CBC. Goodrich struck out five and scattered four hits to get the win. “Hayley just keeps giving us a consistent effort out there,” said Ben Logan head coach Ron Smith. “She’s been consistent all season.” The Raiders led 2-1 through four innings. Schneider then came up with her grand slam in the fifth inning to blow the game open. It was a balanced offensive attack for the Raiders. In addition to the big hit from Schneider, the Raiders received three hits from India Slayback, two hits from Lauren Stahl and an RBI each from Jessica Allen and Deanna Dill. “Hopefully, we can continue to hit like that,” said Smith. Tigers shut out Jets Visiting West Liberty-Salem received a one-hit shutout from Emily Detwiler on Thursday as the Tigers defeated Northeastern 7-0 in an Ohio Heritage Conference softball game. The league-leading Tigers improve to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the OHC. Detwiler struck out four and walked one. She also had a big game at the plate with three hits. Becka Peterson was 3-4 with a home run and two RBI to provide a spark for the Tigers’ offense. Kaitlyn Kite was 2-4 with a home run and Alyssa Neff added two hits and two RBI for WL-Salem. The Tigers are back in action Saturday with a three-team event at Kettering Fairmont. Guenther powers Ridgemont to win Paige Guenther went 2-3 with a double, home run and three RBI to power visiting Ridgemont to a 12-0 six-inning win over Cory-Rawson on Thursday in a nonleague softball game. The Gophers scored four runs in the third inning for a 4- 0 lead. They went on to score four more in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Ridgemont finished with 11 hits. Amber Pemberton had two doubles and Haley Miller contributed a triple for the Gophers. Morgann Mercer and Miller combined on the two-hit shutout. Mercer went the first five innings to get the win.
