Brothers celebrate 50 years running local restaurant

Long before the days of fast food and large chain restaurants, two brothers decided to take over a pizza and sandwich shop to serve the blue collar residents and motorists passing through the city on U.S. Route 33.
And 50 years later the brothers continue to operate Bellefontaine’s oldest restaurant.
“It just seems like yesterday,” Don Hughes, 76, said as he and his older brother Denny, 80, reflected on the past half century from behind the counter of the Pizza Planet on a lazy Thursday afternoon.
