Local responder attends homeland security training

Jeremy Keller, local emergency responder and community risk reduction officer for the Macochee Joint Ambulance District in West Liberty, recently completed training offered by the Center of Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala.

The CDP is operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and is the only federally-operated weapons of mass destruction training facility in the nation. The CDP develops and delivers advanced training for emergency response providers, emergency managers, and other government officers from state local, and tribal governments.

Mr. Keller completed the emergency responder hazardous materials technician course, a 40-hour training program, and achieved national certification upon completion of the training. As a hazardous materials technician, he will be able to provide leadership during chemical spills and other hazardous material incidents.

The CDP offers more than 40 training courses focusing on incident management, mass casualty response, and emergency response to a catastrophic natural disaster or terrorist act.

The CDP training is federally funded and there is no cost to state, local or the emergency response professionals or their agencies.
