Into the lion’s den.
That has become a common feeling for the area’s track and field teams as they prepare for the Division II regional meet in Dayton each spring.

Many of Ohio’s top teams from Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton meet to compete at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium, presenting a sizable challenge in getting to the state meet.
On Thursday and Saturday, Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake, along with Bellefontaine’s girls squad, will find out where each of them stand as they compete for a chance to earn a spot at the state meet next week in Columbus.
The Division II regional at UD begins Thursday at 4 p.m. and concludes Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The top four placers in each event qualify through to the state meet.
“I believe every region is difficult no matter who filters into it, but this region over the years has been extremely difficult, especially in the sprint events,” said Ben Logan boys head coach Kevin Butler. “We have done very well over the years in the sprint events and when we get to regionals it becomes extremely difficult.
“When you have Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus all coming into one region, it’s going to be rough. This year Columbus is not included, but the teams coming from the Defiance district do not really make it much easier.”
Ben Logan’s boys are coming off their fifth consecutive Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division championship. Combined with a district runner-up finish at Graham last Saturday, the Raiders are looking to be at their best now.
“I expect our guys to compete to the best of their ability,” said Butler. “If they do that I have no problem with them. I know they want to do well so adding more stress right now won’t help, in my opinion. I would like to see new personal records and if they can do that then that’s a good sign.”
