Just as Miss. Flora finished reading her “American Hero” letter about Ellie Herdman, she tapped on Miss. Flora’s shoulder and they embraced each other with a warm hug.
Miss. Herdman is diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, which is the most common type of bone cancer.
“To have the kids do something like this where the kids worked so hard to support me is great and it helps me get through it,” said Miss. Herdman.
Miss. Flora and Miss. Buck wrote their American Hero letter as a part of the Intermediate’s Right to Read Week, where the theme is American Heroes, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
“She really does inspire me and I couldn’t think of a better hero than Ellie,” said Miss. Flora.
