Dwight M. Spencer Sr., 79, of Bellefontaine, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Hardin County to the late Gale and Eula Shaw Spencer. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Roena Cain and her husband, Leroy, Neva Pitman and her husband, Wade, and Iola Spencer; and sister-in-law, Phyllis I. Redd.
On May 7, 1960, he married the former Nancy C. Rich in Mount Victory and she survives along with a son, Dwight (Billie) Spencer Jr. of Huntsville; grandchildren, Mike Spencer of Florida, Matt (Rachel) Spencer of Lima, Travis (Christina) Anderson of DeGraff and Lisa (Matt) Wurtsbaugh of Richwood; great-grandchildren, Maddy, Zach, Brooklynn, Logan, Hannah, Houston, Hunter, Korbyn and Avery; sisters, Eileen (Lloyd) Seeley of Lakeview and Sis (Glen) Glassford of DeGraff; sister-in-law, Donna (Ray) Geboy of Bellefontaine, several nieces and nephews; and close friend, Steve Sheeley of Bellefontaine.
In his younger years he worked as a farmer and later owned his own business where he operated heavy equipment. Dwight also worked for Westerman Construction and later for Robinson Investment/Construction Company, both in Bellefontaine.
Dwight was a member of Bellefontaine’s VFW, Eagles and the American Legion.
Pastor Ray Headings will officiate a 1 p.m. graveside service Tuesday at the Huntsville Cemetery.
