Tigers’ relay team sets district record on opening day

West Liberty-Salem’s track and field team stuck to tradition and started the postseason off with a bang Tuesday on the first day of Division III district action at Milton-Union High School.









The Tiger girls qualified to the regional meet in three events and lead the team race, while the Tiger boys 800 relay team set a new district record and advanced several kids to the finals.

The district finals at Milton-Union conclude Saturday with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. and running events starting at 10:30 a.m. The top four placers in each event advance to the Division III regional meet next week in Troy.

WL-Salem sits atop the girls team standings with 19 points after five events. Russia is currently in second with 15 points and Bradford is close behind in third with 14 points. Triad is ninth with five points.

Anna leads the boys team race with 31 points after four events. Russia is sitting in second with 25 points and Miami East is in third with 20 points. WL-Salem, Triad and Fairlawn are all tied for seventh with six points apiece.
