Ohio amusement park welcomes roller coaster fans

MASON, Ohio (AP) — More than 500 roller coaster fans from the United States and Canada are expected to attend a national conference for coaster enthusiasts at a southwestern Ohio amusement park.

The American Coaster Enthusiasts' annual national spring conference is taking place at Kings Island in Mason this weekend.

Conference participants have the opportunity to ride roller coasters before and after regular park hours during the event Saturday and Sunday.

Guest speakers, contests, prizes and behind-the-scenes tours of the 364-acre park also will be included in the event.

American Coaster Enthusiasts was founded in 1978 to promote conservation, appreciation, knowledge and enjoyment of the art of classic wooden roller coasters and contemporary steel coasters.

Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. based in Sandusky.
