Cody Lyons has won a lot of baseball games with his right arm. He showed Thursday he can win one with his bat, too.

Playing in his final home game, Lyons ripped a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a dramatic rally against Springfield Shawnee.

“That was a swing we will all remember for a long time,” said Bellefontaine head coach Art Caudill. “Cody is such a bulldog. He had been struggling a little bit at the plate, but he looks at every at-bat as a new opportunity. He seized his opportunity.”

Lyons’ ninth-inning solo shot over the left-field fence with one out gave Bellefontaine a 5-4 victory in a Division II sectional semifinal at Blue Jacket Park.

“I was looking for that one pitch I could drive, and I got it,” said Lyons. “I was looking straight fastball. That is what he threw and I pounded it.”
