It did not take long for Riverside pitcher Sara Emerich to reach the top of her game. Making her second start of the season, Emerich chalked up 13 strikeouts in a five-inning no-hitter as the Pirates defeated visiting Bradford 10-0 on Tuesday.
SARA EMERICH | The Pirates are now 1-1 on the season. Emerich walked one batter. She struck out the first 11 hitters she faced. “Sara pitched extremely well,” said Riverside head coach Rod Yoder. “She faced the minimum number of batters because Bradford’s only runner was thrown out trying to steal.” Emerich was supported by a Riverside offense that generated nine hits. Erica Snapp had three hits and three RBI to power the Pirates at the plate. Abby Heaberlin and Brittany Shough each added two RBI. “We had a good hitting night as a team with seven different players getting at least one hit,” said Yoder. The Pirates are back in action Thursday at home against Bethel.
