2 school districts pose levy requests

Two school levies, one of which asks for additional funds, are set to appear on the local May 6 primary ballot.

Indian Lake Schools are asking voters to approve a five-year, 7.2-mill levy request that would generate a total of $2,878,500 for the district.

The initial levy was passed in November 2008 and brought in just over $2 million per year.

The levy would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $230 per year, about $56 more than it costs now.

At a recent regular meeting, the board of education announced that whether or not the district will offer high school busing next year is contingent upon passing the renewal levy.

“Due to the impending financial emergency of the district, the board of education approved going to state minimum standards for busing in the event the May 6th renewal emergency operating levy fails,” reads a resolution approved in March by the school board.
