Two men were charged Sunday with theft and other offenses after officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department found them with merchandise stolen from four south end merchants.
Heath Michael Brisson, 33, at large, was charged with four counts of theft and a count each of resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
Rickie J. Anderson, 51, at large, was charged with theft and complicity to theft.
Around 1:30 p.m., officers were called to Label Shopper, 1800 S. Main St., after the men took clothing from the store.
They were stopped while walking in the 1200 block of south Detroit Street carrying a shopping bag.
Mr. Brisson lied about his identity, and while officers were handcuffing Mr. Anderson, he took off running.
Three men saw an officer fall during the foot chase and pursued the suspect, catching him at 1400 S. Detroit.
Officers found merchandise from Label Shopper; Lowe’s Home Improvement, 2168 S. Main St.; Big Lots, 1760 S. Main St.; and Low Phil’s Discount Tobacco, 1706 S. Main St.
Both men were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
