Steve L. Ballinger, 66, of Marion, died Monday morning, April 28, 2014, at home.
He was born in Kenton on July 19, 1947, to the late Bertice Carl and Phyllis Ann Miller Ballinger. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Richard M. Ballinger.
On April 9, 1967, he married the former Becky Grose in the Pharisburg United Methodist Church and she survives, along with his son, Todd (Annie) Ballinger of Bellefontaine; his daughter, Lori (Donny) Connor of Gahanna; his grandchildren, Tanner, Ryan, Kacy and Ally; brother, David L. Ballinger of Marion; and sister, Roxane (Jeffery) Miller of Beverly Hills, Mich.
A 1966 graduate of North Union High School, he was a self-employed carpet installer for 44 years. Steve loved his job and cherished the relationships he made. He was a perfectionist and it showed in his work, gaining him a reputation as the most sought-after carpet installer in the area. He never wanted to stop working.
He was a member of the Richwood First United Methodist Church, and in his later years, enjoyed attending church and reading the Bible.
Steve enjoyed shooting pool, weight-lifting and just enjoyed physical exercise. He especially loved taking care of “Old Blue,” his work van.
His children and grandchildren were the most important thing to Steve and brought him a great deal of joy.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood. Pastor Joe Rhea officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Richwood First United Methodist Church, Richwood. Burial follows in Claibourne Cemetery.
