Chieftain netters grab first victory

Bellefontaine Chiefs

Bellefontaine’s boys tennis team claimed its first victory of the season Thursday after beating host Springfield Catholic Central 3-2 in a non-league contest.

“I am proud of the entire team the way they stuck in there and never gave up,” said BHS head coach James Howell, whose team improves to 1-8. “At first singles, Tyler Frantz took control early in his match and never looked back. Tyler seems to be finding his serve. He has great placement, but I am seeing some increased velocity as of late which sets up some other shot well.

“At third singles, Isaiah Brady showed great determination as he fell behind quickly by losing the first set, but rallied back to win the next two sets to get the win for our team. The second doubles team of Min Lin and Dean Smith have won three out of their last four matches. Dean showed a great presence at the net tonight.”
