Dog killed with crossbow in northeast Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Police in northeast Ohio are trying to find out who killed a golden retriever with a crossbow.

The Vindicator ( ) reports that the dog named Teddie was shot Sunday night in the parking lot of an apartment house next to the owner's north Youngstown residence.

The owner, Rodd Coonce, said he heard "a loud snap and then a yelp" before finding the dog had been shot with an arrow that went through the animal's left side and was found on the ground.

The devastated Coonce says he has no idea why someone would shoot his dog.

No charges have been filed.
