Riverside’s girls basketball team made a late comeback, but it was not quite enough as the Pirates fell to host Fairlawn 51-48 in non-league action Monday. With the loss, the Pirates end the regular season at 9-11. Fairlawn improves to 3-17. Fairlawn led 22-18 at halftime and stretched its advantage to nine points (35-26) after three quarters. Riverside heated up in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Jets 22-16. However, Fairlawn was able to hold on for its three-point win. Sara Emerich paced the Pirates with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sarah Schindewolf scored eight points, Erica Snapp had seven points and Kara Metz and Amelia Carter added six each. Katie Monnier scored a game-high 22 points to lead Fairlawn. In the reserve game, Riverside rolled to a 60-19 win. Brittany Shough led the Pirates with 11 points. Riverside begins Division IV sectional tournament play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against Springfield Catholic Central at Sidney High School.
