LC humane society part of milestone

PHOENIX — PetSmart Charities this month celebrates a milestone 50,000 dogs taking a life-saving ride on its Rescue Waggin’, a national transport program that transfers dogs and puppies from animal shelters with high pet populations to other animal shelters in other communities where adoptable dogs are more in demand.

As an official Rescue Waggin’ partner, the Humane Society Serving Logan County will celebrate this milestone, along with 60 other shelters in the program, during their October Rescue Waggin’ transport, scheduled for 5 a.m. Oct. 27.

Since May 2008, the local humane society has sent 588 dogs and puppies aboard the Rescue Waggin’ vehicle for this life-saving ride.

“The Humane Society Serving Logan County’s commitment to saving so many lives has been instrumental in reaching this collective milestone,” said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director for PetSmart Charities, in a release. “Every month, these Rescue Waggin’ partner shelters demonstrate their sincere dedication to helping pets in their community.”

Animal shelters in the Rescue Waggin’ program are also eligible for grants to help improve operations and increase spay/neuter resources in their communities.
