In a cost-saving measure, Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities members voted to absorb two vacant positions during their regular meeting Thursday.
Superintendent Dr. Joseph Mancuso told the board that not replacing a transferring assistant instructor and a retiring education coordinator saves the agency about $125,000.
Board members will interview applicants vying to replace Dr. Mancuso — whose retirement is effective Dec. 31 — beginning next week. Executive Secretary Pam Hickman reports the board received about 10 applicants, but only three will be granted an interview.
Board of DD members are expected to select Dr. Mancuso’s replacement during a special meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 28.
The board also discussed the upcoming 24th annual chicken barbecue, scheduled for Oct. 6. The dinner costs $7 and includes half a chicken breast, cole slaw, chips, a roll and cookie. Dinners may be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
In other matters, the board conducts a public forum during its Nov. 17 meeting. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Next year’s agency goals will be presented during the annual question-and-answer session with members of the public.
