Shelby County standoff ends in arrest

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman after she waved a gun at deputies, prompting a 3-hour-long standoff Saturday, WHIOTV.com reported.

Deputies were sent to 9868 Kuther Road at about 9 p.m. to check on a woman who may have been having a mental health issue. Deputies called the woman inside the home, and one deputy outside heard the woman load a handgun, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman came out of the home with the gun, yelled at deputies and went back inside. Sidney-Piqua-Shelby SWAT officers, deputies and two negotiators surrounded the home for about three hours to try to convince the woman to come outside.

After midnight, the woman walked out on to the front porch, and officers took her into custody. She was taken to the Shelby County Jail and is being held on inducing panic and resisting arrest charges.

No one was injured, and the woman will be evaluated for mental health.
