The few dozen military veterans who live in the Green Hills Retirement Community were part of a large crowd that gathered Monday in Foundation Hall for a veterans’ appreciation event that featured live music from a war veteran with more than 20 years’ experience.

Assisting in the presentation of the colors was Anthony Mickey, an Ohio National Guard soldier with the 1-174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, out of Marysville.
Mr. Mickey spent a year in Iraq as a radar specialist. In civilian life, he works as a cook at Green Hills. The staff and residents of Green Hills hosted a party for him last year when he returned from service.
Entertainment Monday was provided by Gary Wilson, who played guitar and sang a variety of patriotic country-bluegrass songs. Mr. Wilson spent 22 years in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Wilson said his family has a legacy of military service. Most recently, his son has served in Iraq.
