Meyer hopes to ease Braxton Miller’s duties

Coaching Braxton Miller has become like handling a double-edged sword for Ohio State head man Urban Meyer.

Meyer has lavished praise on Miller’s talents many times and did it again during his weekly press conference Monday, calling him a “hell of a player” on three different occasions.

But the juggling act Meyer faces now is to limit the abuse his star sophomore quarterback takes on the field without hurting his team’s chances to win football games.

Miller carried the ball 27 times during Ohio State’s win over Central Florida last Saturday. After the game, Meyer said Miller was “blown out.”

Through two games, Miller has 44 carries. The other seven players who have carried the football for the Buckeyes have combined for 60 attempts.

“We have to play better around him to eliminate some of those carries,” said Meyer on Monday. “But, my gosh, is he a good runner and we all see that. So we just have to be a little smarter.”
