To all area residents that disagree with the speed limit on Ludlow between Lake and Eastern avenues: 1. 25 mph was not my idea. 2. I don’t like it either. 3. I prefer to spend my money on beer rather than speeding tickets. 4. Driving 12 inches from my back bumper will not (repeat) not make me go any faster! Lewis Hinkle Bellefontaine |
So, whenever referring back to a live meaning, such as "residents," it should read: "...all area residents WHO ....."
TV personalities do this all of the time. They say "libary" instead of liBRAry. The most largest, frustrating and appaling error, especially in all media advertising and by reporters, is using the word "over" instead of "more than." They are not compatible, not interchangeable.
Try This: "Hey didldle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped 'more than the moon?' Does not work, does it? Then, the "sheep jumped over the fence," Not "more than", huh.
I just hope reporters read this. I was guilty of this "over and more than" thing in 1966, when the then Examiner editor, Dalton Young, edited my type written hard copy, and sent it back with large red and blue corrections, plus other remarks
