ABOVE: Linda Wilson scoops vanilla ice cream out of an ice cream maker and into a storage container Thursday at West Mansfield United Methodist Church during an ice-cream making session in preparation for the church’s fifth annual ice cream social and carnival from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Church members made 17 gallons of vanilla, six gallons of chocolate and eight gallons of strawberry. Also featured at the event will be a hog roast and picnic-style lunch, hayride, a cakewalk featuring 40 cakes and a baked goods auction. Various indoor games will be available for children, including a giant-sized glow-in-thedark Chutes and Ladders game that attendees will be able to play under a black light. The festivities raise funds for church ministries and organizers report that $11,000 has been generated since the event’s start in 2007.
