Ohio judge recuses himself over online petition

MEDINA, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio judge says he is recusing himself from an attempted murder case after he received emails with an online petition asking for the defendant's acquittal.

The Medina County Gazette (http://bit.ly/14xO0pB ) reports Medina County Common Pleas Judge James Kimbler on Thursday said he requested the case be transferred out of concerns that he could be accused of impropriety.

The petition calls for the acquittal of 32-year-old Terry Boyle, who authorities are accusing of attempted murder and felonious assault.

The petition says the Medina woman was charged because "for a split second" she put a pillow over her son's head to stop him from fighting with his sister.

The newspaper reports Boyle was arrested after telling her counselor she felt "homicidal" toward her 6-year-old son.

Boyle's attorney didn't respond to requests for comment.
